The Select Committee on Adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been established by the Senate to inquire and report on the opportunities and impacts of AI technologies in Australia. The Committee will consider recent developments and opportunities regarding the adoption of AI technologies, risks and harms that may arise from the adoption of AI technologies, emerging international approaches to reduce AI risks, opportunities to use AI for the benefit of citizens, the economy, and the environment, ways to promote a responsible AI industry in Australia, the possibility of generative AI posing a threat to democracy and trust in institutions, and environmental impacts of AI technologies. The Committee will submit its report by 19 September 2024.
