University enrols two AI students – fascinating experiment

A Michigan University is conducting an experiment where two AI “students” are enrolling in courses alongside human students to evaluate the student experience. The AI students, called Ann and Fry, will go through the admissions process, register, choose their courses, and complete assignments. The aim is to track the learning experience of students and identify flaws, redundant processes, and risks. The lack of research on using AI to teach and learn has been puzzling, compared to studies on productivity in the workplace. The experiment could critique traditional pedagogies and identify areas for improvement. However, the setup of the experiment will be important to ensure that the AI students are modeled on typical student behavior.
