Responsible AI now has an ISO standard

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have approved the world’s first standard for AI management systems, ISO/IEC 42001. This standard guides organisations to develop and use AI systems responsibly, addressing ethical considerations, transparency, and continuous learning. It is designed for all AI systems, applicable in various contexts, and aims to provide a structured way for companies to balance the risks and opportunities associated with AI. The EU AI Act, initiated by the European Commission, aims to regulate AI in Europe and could influence legislation outside the EU. Together with ISO/IEC 42001, this legislation signals a broader cultural shift towards responsible AI.
