Reed Smith, one of the top 50 law firms in the US, has hired Richard Robbins as its first director of applied artificial intelligence. Robbins, who was formerly the managing director of applied AI at Epiq, will lead a team of AI engineers and data scientists and design generative AI, predictive AI, data science, and other disciplines to enhance the delivery of legal and business services. Robbins will work under David Cunningham, Reed Smith’s chief innovation officer, and collaborate with the firm’s existing design and tech transformation resources, including its Innovation Lab and Gravity Stack subsidiary. Other law firms, such as Latham & Watkins, have also hired directors of AI.
