OpenAI’s Sam Altman says human-level AI is coming but will change world much less than we think

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, believes that the fears around AI’s impact on the world and jobs are exaggerated, particularly regarding artificial general intelligence (AGI). He believes that AGI could be developed shortly. OpenAI aims to achieve AGI safely, has a private market valuation of nearly $100 billion, and is backed by Microsoft. Altman has addressed concerns that AI economic inequalities and displace the working class. While possible, he believes AI is more of a tool than a job replacement. The safety of AI and OpenAI’s role in protecting it was at the centre of Altman’s brief ouster from the company in November.
