How lawyers are using generative AI

ChatGPT might have swept the world, garnering 100 million users in its first few months after launch – but lawyers have been sceptical about its accuracy, concerned it will take jobs, and confused about how it works.

This hasn’t been helped by stories of lawyers’ use of the technology gone embarrassingly wrong, such as the New York lawyer who used it for legal research only to be humiliated in court when opposing counsel pointed out that the cases cited in his legal brief did not exist.

The legal profession has nothing to fear. Generative AI will potentially save so much time with all sorts of small but important efficiency tools with limitations. When lawyers use it they’ll understand what it’s capable of.
