Generative AI and the IP system.

A recent McKinsey report found that generative AI’s impact on productivity could annually add trillions of dollars in value to the global economy. With its ability to generate novel content, generative AI raises the question of whether the traditional understanding of intellectual property still holds. 

To address these and other questions, IP Australia has developed several scenarios that explore the implications and ramifications of generative AI on individual IP rights and the IP system as a whole. Asking the level of impact expected from these tools once they become embedded in society and used to their full potential.
