Courts release generative AI guidelines

The New Zealand judiciary has released comprehensive guidelines for the use of generative AI chatbots in legal practices, including court or tribunal proceedings. The guidelines provide practical advice to judges, lawyers, and non-lawyers to mitigate the risks and maintain the integrity of the administration of justice. The guidelines became effective on December 7, 2023. The Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration Inc. and the UK judiciary have also developed similar guidelines for their courts and tribunals.
