Can AI write laws? Lawyer puts ChatGPT to test

Associate Professor Guzyal Hill of Charles Darwin University (CDU) evaluated Artificial Intelligence’s (AI) ability to create laws. Using ChatGPT to analyse, compare, and produce domestic violence legislation, assessing the quality of its legal draft work. The findings showed that while ChatGPT was effective in categorising and identifying patterns of domestic violence, human drafting was still more effective. Associate Professor Hill suggests that AI is an area in which lawyers and law students should improve their skills, and further research should be conducted to determine its place in the legal profession.
