Building Better Civil Justice Systems Isn’t Just About The Funding

The civil justice system has become its greatest enemy, frustrating its purpose of providing access to civil justice for all. A checkerboard of technology systems and data infrastructures across thousands of local court jurisdictions makes it nearly impossible to develop tools with the scale needed to be sustainable. Standardization of data collection and electronic filing systems that transmit information to the courts can create a viable market for end-to-end tools that could provide sustainable, scalable justice tech. Once data collection is standardized, a lawyer or litigant need not figure out what forms are required and fill out individual, often duplicative forms.
