Australia set for AI copyright fight as creatives fear ‘existential’ scraping threat

The use of content in artificial intelligence (AI) platforms has become a contentious issue between media/entertainment industries and tech giants. In Australia, media companies want the government to clearly prohibit the unauthorized scraping of their material, which would give them grounds to negotiate commercial agreements with AI firms. Some Australian media companies are already in early talks about collectively bargaining with global AI firms. Meanwhile, Nine Entertainment Co Chief Executive Mike Sneesby said his company had initiated discussions with tech platforms about compensation for the use of its content in AI.
