AI is the future of law, but most legal pros aren’t trained for it, new report says

A recent Thomson Reuters report reveals that 95% of professionals expect artificial intelligence (AI) to be integral to their jobs within five years, but 64% have not received training. The use of generative AI in law firms has nearly doubled from 14% in 2024 to 26% in 2025. While 74% of legal professionals believe AI will benefit the industry, 52% feel their firms lack formal AI policies. Concerns exist regarding AI replacing legal jobs, with only 10% perceiving it as a non-threat. The report stresses the need for training and the implementation of responsible AI policies, noting that only 23% have specific guidelines for generative AI usage. Continuous education is highlighted as crucial for navigating the AI landscape ethically.
