The AI industry in Japan is experiencing substantial growth, thanks to government involvement and funding. Japan’s approach to AI regulation is noteworthy, as it focuses on harnessing the technology’s positive impact on society rather than stifling innovation with excessive rules. At present, Japan relies on existing laws to regulate AI technologies. Furthermore, Japan aims to take a global leadership role in the development of AI governance frameworks. As the 2023 G7 chair, Japan launched the Hiroshima AI Process to promote the responsible development and use of AI while mitigating its potential risks.
