The US Copyright Office has approved copyright protection for works created with the assistance of artificial intelligence, provided human involvement is evident in the final output. Creative modifications made by a person to an AI-generated work can also qualify for copyright.
However, works generated entirely by AI without significant human contribution will not receive protection. This policy encourages AI use in creative industries while addressing concerns about using copyrighted materials for AI training. The copyright office is also developing a report on licensing and liability issues related to AI training with copyrighted content.
