Malaysia is undergoing rapid digital transformation as part of the global shift brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterised by automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence. In response, the government launched the myDIGITAL initiative and the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, which outline a long-term plan to turn Malaysia into a high-income, tech-driven nation by 2030 and to position it as a regional leader in the ASEAN digital economy. Key priorities include expanding data-centre infrastructure and accelerating AI adoption.
Supportive government policies have already attracted massive investments from major technology companies such as Google, Apple, and Amazon, helping to build a strong cloud-services and data-centre ecosystem. Building on this momentum, the prime minister has announced the creation of a National Artificial Intelligence Office to drive AI deployment, encourage innovation, and oversee ethical and regulatory issues. In its first year, the Office will spearhead several major initiatives: developing an AI Technology Action Plan (2026–2030), establishing an AI Adoption Regulatory Framework, and introducing an AI Code of Ethics for responsible use across the AI value chain.
With Malaysia on track to become the region’s leading data centre hub, the government sees significant economic potential and is optimistic about the opportunities AI will unlock.
