Artificial intelligence in the legal system

The Daimler and Benz Foundation has established Ladenburg College to focus on the application of large language models (LLMs) in the justice system. It has also launched the funding initiative “Technological Intelligence for the Transformation, Automation and User Orientation of the Justice System (TITAN)” with an allocation of approximately 1.5 million euros. TU Braunschweig leads a collaboration of seven universities to explore AI’s role in enhancing the justice system while upholding fundamental rights and law.

Key research areas include identifying how AI can support the judiciary, addressing psychological factors like trustworthiness and accountability, and fostering agile organisational structures for digital transformation. The interdisciplinary project spans three years and involves experts from diverse fields such as legal informatics, psychology, and law.
