Notre Dame Law School x Harvey Partnership

Notre Dame Law School has partnered with Harvey, a leading generative AI platform for the legal profession, which is already in use by most top U.S. law firms. The initiative aims to integrate AI directly into legal education, preparing students for a profession where law firms expect AI expertise. Dean G. Marcus Cole emphasised the importance of training future lawyers to use AI effectively and ethically.

The rollout began in Fall 2024 with law librarians receiving access and training, followed in Spring 2025 by students in two Advanced Legal Research courses taught by Professors Susan Azyndar and Thomas Mills. Students praised Harvey’s structured results, conversational interface, and usefulness for transactional law and complex analysis.

Faculty noted that exposing students to AI in research and practice is now a core responsibility of legal education. With many graduates joining leading firms, this collaboration gives Notre Dame students a competitive advantage and aligns them with the evolving technology-driven legal market.

Harvey’s Chief Business Officer, John Haddock, highlighted the role of law schools like Notre Dame in shaping the future of the profession. Notre Dame Law School first announced the partnership at a panel led by Dean Cole in Fall 2024.
