How law firms have used AI in the last year

Over the past year, law firms have experienced significant shifts in their adoption and use of artificial intelligence (AI), according to research. Agile Market Intelligence’s Brand Intelligence tool gathered qualitative feedback from Australian legal professionals through five quarterly surveys from September 2024 to September 2025, analyzing their experiences with AI.

The AI adoption process started with high enthusiasm but faced setbacks due to product failures, eventually settling into a more stable, evidence-based approach. Initial curiosity in September 2024 led to divergent views by December, with some practitioners praising AI tools and others criticising or rejecting them. A crisis emerged in March 2025 due to system issues and inaccuracies; however, by June, some users had begun integrating AI into their workflows, striking a balance between optimism and caution. By September, the industry showed signs of stabilisation but also fragmentation, with some users highlighting benefits like time savings and quality, while concerns about security persisted.

Overall, the data indicates that the legal sector approaches AI cautiously, favouring evidence-based evaluation over outright rejection, with successful platforms emphasising quality over hype to build sustainable adoption.
