Anthropic opens second Asia Pacific office

Anthropic has announced its expansion into India, with plans to open a new office in Bengaluru in early 2026. The company’s second Asia-Pacific hub after Tokyo is set to open soon. The Bengaluru office will strengthen Anthropic’s presence in India’s fast-growing AI ecosystem and meet the rising global demand for its AI model, Claude.

CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei is visiting India this week to engage with public officials and enterprise partners. He described India as uniquely positioned because of its deep technical talent and government support for inclusive AI development. Amodei noted that India’s linguistic diversity and governance challenges align with Anthropic’s mission to build responsible, accessible AI systems.

Anthropic’s India operations will focus on AI for social impact, targeting sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, while also collaborating with enterprises, nonprofits, and startups to foster innovation. The Bengaluru office will serve as a hub for supporting India’s entrepreneurial and developer ecosystem.

According to Anthropic’s Economic Index Report, India ranks second globally in Claude usage, just behind the United States. Much of this use involves technical and programming work, including mobile UI design and web app debugging. Companies like CRED already rely on Claude for mission-critical coding tasks. With the rapid adoption of Claude Code, which grew more than tenfold in its first three months, Anthropic expects strong uptake among India’s export-driven IT sector.

Anthropic’s Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Smith, emphasised that Indian enterprises and startups are seeking trustworthy, high-performance AI systems to support large-scale operations. He praised the country’s dynamic innovation environment and the global impact of its developer community.

The expansion also aligns with Anthropic’s investment in Indic language support. Claude currently understands several Indian languages and will soon feature enhanced performance in Hindi, as well as expanded capabilities in Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. These improvements aim to broaden access to AI tools across India and promote responsible, inclusive AI adoption.
